Lume's lampshades can come in a variety of shapes and sizes. Below we have given you some more information about what we can make to help you decide which one would work best for you
Drum Shade
A cylindrical shade that reassembles a drum. This is made with our printed cotton fabric, and bonded to a fire retardant PVC backing with a top and bottom ring. Our drum shades are finished with cotton taped inside edges. Our drum shades can be made for a lamp base or a ceiling fitting. All drum shades are handmade in our studio on Hove.
Our drum lampshade fitting ring will fit a standard bayonet cap (BC) lamp holder, which is the most common type of lamp fitting in the UK today. It can also be used with Edison Screw (E27) lamp holders, which is most common in Europe. Simply remove the converter plug in the centre of the fitting.

20cm D x 20cm H – Works best as a table lamp but can also be used as a ceiling pendent in a small room
25cm D x 20cm H - Works best as a table lamp or in a smaller room as a ceiling pendent
30cm D x 22cm H – Works best as a larger table lamp or in a medium size room as a ceiling pendent
40cm D x 24cm H – Works best either on a floor standard lamp base or as a statement ceiling shade
45cm D x 25cm H - Works best either on a floor standard lamp base or as a statement ceiling shade
If you would like a completely bespoke size then please do get in touch. Our drum ringset come in increments of 5cm starting from 10cm. We also can cut all of our lampshade PVC at our studio meaning you can have it at any height.
Tapered Shade
Our tapered shades are cone-shaped, with smaller top rings to bottom. This is made with our printed cotton fabric, and bonded to a fire retardant PVC backing with a top and bottom ring. Our drum shades are finished with cotton taped inside edges. All tapered shades are handmade in our studio on Hove. This shade style can come either with a shade carrier for use on a lamp base or a spider fitting for use on a ceiling pendent. The shade carrier and spider fitting will fit a standard bayonet cap (BC) lamp holder, which is the most common type of lamp fitting in the UK today. It can also be used with Edison Screw (E27) lamp holders, which is most common in Europe. Simply remove the converter plug in the centre of the fitting.

Traditional Shades - Empire & Bell
Traditional shades are also known as soft shades and are made using the traditional method of stretching fabric over a fixed wire frame and hand stitched in place. Our traditional shades are trimmed with pom pom trim on the bottom and hand stitched bias binding along the top
Our plain coloured traditional frames have been sprayed silver to give the shade more interest. If you would like your frame sprayed in a particular colour then please feel free to get in contact
Traditional Empire
A sloping fixed frame, which is smaller at the top then the bottom. The bottom also has a scalloped edge. This style of traditional shade is probably the most common shape when it comes to soft shades. All traditional shades are handmade in our studio on Hove.
Our empire shades can be used on a lamp base or a ceiling fitting. This empire frame is fitted with a reversible gimble that will fit standard UK table lamps or pendant fittings. It can also be used with Edison Screw (E27) lamp holders, which is most common in Europe. Simply remove the converter plug in the centre of the fitting.

Traditional Bell
This fixed frame resembles a bell, and flares out at the bottom with a scalloped edge. Narrow at the top and wider at the bottom, they are very versatile. Our bell traditional shades can only be used as a ceiling pendent.
Our medium bell shade will fit standard UK Table lamps or pendant fittings. However our large bell shade will fit a standard bayonet cap (BC) holder and also be used with Edison Screw (E27) holders, which is most common in Europe. Simply remove the converter plug in the centre of the fitting.

Can't find anyone local to recover your lampshade? You're not alone, it's a specialist skill, and very few people offer it. At Lume Lighting, I offer a professional lampshade recovering service to customers across the whole of the UK. Simply post your shade to me, and I'll restore it to its former glory.
Whether your lampshade is a treasured heirloom, an expensive investment piece, or simply one you'd rather restore than replace, I can help. How does the postal service work?
It's simpler than you might think:
1. Send me a few photos and measurements of your lampshade for a no-obligation quote
2. Once we've agreed on fabric and price, I'll ask for a deposit
3. Pack your shade carefully and post it to me (I can advise on packaging)
4. I'll recover it and send it back to you via courier, fully insured

How much does lampshade recovering cost?
Each recovering is priced individually based on the size, shape, and condition of your shade. Here's a guide to give you a rough idea:
- Extra small (up to 15cm diameter) - from £90
- Small (up to 25cm diameter) - from £120
- Medium (up to 35cm diameter) - from £170
- Large (up to 45cm diameter) - from £200
- Extra large (up to 55cm diameter) - from £230
Unlined shades are £10 - £30 less depending on size. Larger shades are also catered for, just get in touch.
Why do traditional lampshade recoverings cost more?
When you choose a traditional hand-sewn recovering, you're not just getting a new piece of fabric stretched over a frame, you're investing in a painstaking, skilled process that can take mulitple hours to days per shade.
Every recovering starts by carefully stripping the original fabric from the frame. I then inspect the frame fully, sanding and respraying it where needed so the foundation is sound before anything else begins. Next, the frame is bound by hand with cotton tape, this is what the fabric will ultimately be anchored to, and it has to be done precisely.
Once the frame is prepared, the fabric is hand stretched and pinned carefully into position. This stage requires patience and a skilled eye, the tension has to be just right across the whole shade before a single stitch goes in. Only once I'm completely happy with the shape is the fabric hand sewn onto the frame, before the binding and trim are attached to finish.
It's a labour of love, and the price reflects the hours of skilled work that go into every single shade. But the result is a beautifully restored lampshade that will last for many more years to come.

I have a selection of in-house printed and plain linen fabrics to choose from. You're also very welcome to source your own fabric and I'll advise you on the right weight and type. If you'd like me to source something specific, I offer a fabric sourcing service for £25.
