I had a great time at this workshop - learned a lot, had fun and left with a handmade lampshade that looks really professional and that I’m really proud of! Jo instructions were really clear, the pace was perfect and Starling studio is easy to find and a lovely bright space to work in. I left feeling super inspired to continue making lampshades! A really productive way to spend a morning. Highly recommend!

I had a wonderful day making a traditional lampshade with Jo, Jo is a fantastic tutor, explaining each step with clear instructions and supplying endless cups of tea.
I left with a finished lampshade and the confidence that I can do it again.
I arrived with a nice piece of material and a few hours later left with a beautiful lampshade. Jo is a calm, helpful teacher - she supplies everything needed and slowly takes you through each step. A relaxing, satisfying afternoon.
We have the wide lampshade in our small living room. It allows lots of light to escape whilst providing a lovely clean graphic to hide the lightbulb. We miss Brighton and this is a lovely reminder.
My first try at using a lampshade kit and these are great! Except…. Please WHY put woodchip in as packaging, loose in the boxes??? It was stuck to every inch of the roll of pvc, including the raw ends, my shantung silk fabric, the table where I was trying to work, me, the floor. Please use the tissue paper that you kindly wrapped the boxes in instead. I would definitely buy again if you can confirm the packaging issue will be sorted.

I have to say don’t normally leave reviews but really wanted to leave one about this lampshade making workshop. On arriving I felt so comfortable and at ease, Jo was so friendly and welcoming. Once we were all organised and settled Jo talked us through what we needed to do step by step, giving little tips along the way. The notes and photos that she provided will be very useful, as I now can’t wait to make more of my own lampshades. If you are wondering whether to book one of her workshops I would say just go for it, I’m so glad I did! Thank you so much Jo 😊

My daughter and I thoroughly enjoyed Jo’s lampshade making workshop at Starling Studio. Jo is a very knowledgeable and excellent teacher who was supportive to all during the workshop. We very much appreciated Jo’s clear step-by-step approach to lampshade making which really ensured we able to make the most of our session. It was great too that Jo had prepared notes with photos for us to take away at the end of the session and that all the essential tools were provided.
