About Lume Lighting

Lume Lighting creates beautifully unique and bespoke lampshades and lighting products handmade in the UK

HELLO, I’M JO THE DESIGNER AND LAMPSHADE MAKER BEHIND LUME LIGHTING

I find joy in craft and the handmade and I’m so lucky that I get to hand make my own products everyday. I live in Brighton where I grew up, I’m an avid tea drinker, a colour lover and I find happiness in being outdoors and in nature.

About Lume Lighting

Lume lighting is based in a small sunny studio at the bottom of Albert Mews in Brighton & Hove, UK.

From here I hand make contemporary and traditional sewn lampshades using Lume’s own collection of printed fabrics and a range of luxury linens. Alongside my expertly designed lampshades, there are unique fairy lights and pendant lights to add interest and fun to your home.

How Lume Lighting Started

I am a skilled lampshade maker and have been expertly manufacturing lampshades since 2014. After adding contemporary drum lampshades to my range of homewares, I found a love for lampshades and decided to focus on lighting and rebranded my homewares business from ‘Joanna Corney’ to ‘Lume Lighting’ in 2018. Being a trained printed textile designer means that my lampshades are unique as they are made using my own exclusive screen and lino printed fabric.

I am skilled in the traditional methods of soft lampshade making as well as hard backed contemporary styles, and offer a bespoke made to order and lampshade recovering service.

Learn with me

From my studio in Hove, I run regular lampshade making and fairy light making workshops. Over the past 5 years of teaching, I have taught workshops in a variety of venues throughout Brighton and Hove and have also put on lampshade making parties and team building workshops for businesses. Please do get in touch if you would like to book a workshop.

If you can’t make it to a workshop then I have created a selection of adult DIY craft kits that are perfect for you to learn the skill from your own home.

Lume Lighting Workshops

Bespoke lampshade review

"I searched everywhere for lampshades that would suit the style and colour scheme of my spare bedroom, all to no avail. Then I found Lume Lighting. Joanna was happy to change the trim on her traditional lampshade to suit me, and to meet my timescale. I am overjoyed by the resulting lampshades. They are beautifully made and are perfect for the room."

Workshop review

"Really lovely relaxed workshop, in a bright and sunny studio. The class was small, so we all got lots of one to time if needed. We all finished our shades in the time given (2.5hrs) and were all very happy with them. We could also buy materials to take home to make more...which I did. I throughly recommend this workshop and am looking forward to the next one...fairy lights. A BIG THANK YOU Joanna"

Environmental impact

At Lume Lighting, I care about the environmental impact of running a business. All of my products are handmade to order from my studio in the UK and all my fabric is printed in small print runs, meaning there is less chance for waste.

I wrap and pack all of my products in either reused packaging or packaging that can be recycled or composted. Any fabric scraps get used in my fabric bundles, or if they are too small they get recycled.

Contemporary drum lampshades are made using PVC lampshade backing, this is something that I am currently looking into changing to find a more environmentally friendly way to make them. However I do believe that buying a lampshade from Lume Lighting will last you for a long time, due to the quality, therefore they are not a disposable product. I love to reuse customers' own frames, therefore if you have an old lampshade frame that you want saved, do get in touch.

Please do have a browse and feel free to get in touch if you have any questions.

Joanna xx
