Lino Printing & Lampshade Making Workshop - Brighton
This is unlike any other lampshade making workshop you'll find. In this unique full day workshop at Starling Studio in Fiveways, Brighton, you'll do something truly special - design your own lino print, print it onto fabric, and then turn that fabric into a beautiful drum lampshade you've made entirely yourself.
You'll leave with a completely one-of-a-kind lampshade featuring your own original design, something that simply couldn't exist anywhere else. Taught by Jo from Lume Lighting, who trained as a printed textile designer and has been making lampshades for over 10 years, this workshop combines two brilliant creative skills in one memorable day.
No drawing ability or artistic experience needed, you'll be amazed what you can create with simple shapes and a little guidance.
What you'll learn
- How to develop your own design concept and sketch it out
- How to transfer your design onto lino and carve it
- How to create a repeat printed pattern on fabric using your lino block
- How to make a 20cm drum lampshade using your hand-printed fabric

What to bring
If you already have a design or pattern in mind, print it out and bring it along, otherwise everything you need for inspiration is provided. Please note the maximum design size is 10cm x 15cm, which will then be repeated across the fabric.
There's a 45 minute lunch break - please bring your own lunch, or there are lovely cafes in Fiveways just a short walk away.
Is this workshop suitable for beginners?
Absolutely. You don't need to be able to draw, and you don't need any previous lino printing or lampshade making experience. Simple geometric shapes and repeat patterns make stunning results, Jo will guide you through every step of the process.
